Oyigbo Task Force Com’tee Monitors Compliance On Govt Directive Over Covid-19

The Oyigbo Task Force Committee Monitoring Compliance on government directives which is led by the Council Chairman, Hon. Prince Gerald Oforji (JP) has been on its toes since the index case of the coronavirus was discovered in Rivers State a fortnight ago.

The Council boss who drives the train sometimes alternate the team with some other stakeholders in the area and they have been going round the council area on daily basis not only sensitizing the residents and people on the need for them to comply with the government’s directives on the preventive measure put in place against the spread of the pandemic decease but also to monitor strict compliance on the border closure at Umuagbai Community and Imo River.

 At the popular Eke Oyigbo Modern Market and other smaller markets visited by the team, there were deserted by the traders for fear of arrest. 

Also the major churches in Oyigbo and its suburbs which the team visited, they not only observed compliance to the social distance directives but the number of persons approved by the authorities. 

The Council boss commended the men of God they met on ground for their obedience to the directives, saying that the government means well for the citizens as according to him only one who is alive praises God. 

With megafone Hon. Oforji educated the people on the need for them to stay at home and exercise precautionary measures to stay alive including observance of basic hygiene, constant washing of hands and the usage of sanitizers. 

He later distributed some sanitizers and face masks which the council procured after demonstrating to them how it is used.  Speaking with newsmen over the weekend at Oyigbo, the Council Chairman disclosed that security personnel had been deployed to support the state government’s surveillance team to ensure that there is no entrance or exit. 

He used the opportunity to commend the security operatives in Oyigbo for the good job he said they are doing, urging them to keep it up, assuring that collectively the war on COVID-19 will be won.  He also commended Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the proactive measures taken to halt the spread of the decease. 

On palliative measures for the citizens that have been trapped in the lockdown directive, he said it depended on the state government’s purse.  He however, called on public spirited individuals and multinational companies to support the state government in this regards. 

 

The stakeholders who accompanied the council boss for the visit at the borders over the weekend included the Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Hon. (Mrs) Ifeyinwa Nwankpa; her husband and PDP candidate for Oyigbo State Constituency in the RSHA in the last election, Prof. Onyemachi Nwankpa; former CTC Chairman Oyigbo, Hon. Ugochukwu Ejiri Supervisor for Works & Transport, Hon. Chika Loveday Nwachukwu.   You would recall that during the inauguration of the COVID-19 pandemic Committee for Oyigbo LGA recently, the Council boss had charge them to monitor and ensure that the government directives are strictly adhered to.

The Committee members included Hon. Prince Gerald Oforji (JP) Chairman; DPO’s Oyigbo and Afam Police Stations; DSS Commander Oyigbo; Civil Defence Corps, Oyigbo LGA; Supervisory Councilors, Advisers; and all political appointees in the Council area.
