NUP Appeals To RSG To Release More Funds For Gratuities, Initial Pension Arrears, Death Benefits
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Rivers State has appealed to the Rivers State Government to release more funds for the purpose of gratuities, initial pension arrears and death benefits in order to accommodate more beneficiaries and other areas of pension entitlements left now.
The Chairman of NUP, Rivers State comrade Collins I. Nwankwo made the appeal on Tuesday at the sideline of NUP South-South Zonal meeting in Port Harcourt.
Comrade Nwankwo said of special note is the omission of pensioners of local Government council from the ongoing exercise . Comrade Nwankwo appealed that the LGA pensioners should be considered alongside others as what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
The NUP Boss in Rivers State also urged the state Government to consider retirees of primary school system who by a Federal circular in 2002/2003 were returned to the states for continued payment of their retirement benefits.
Comrade Nwankwo called on the Zonal Council of NUP to add their voice in asking the State Government to harmonize pension earnings and implement other pension increases.
The Rivers State NUP Chairman however, commended the state Government for being regular in payment of monthly pensions to pensioners on the state payroll.
