Senate Approves Onochie’s Appointment  As NDDC Chairman

The Senate has approved Lauretta Ifeanyi Onochie’s appointment as the actual Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission Board. Ifeanyi-Onochie is the president’s Special Assistant on New Media.

Twelve additional candidates were confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday during the plenary, with the exception of two who weren’t present for the screening last Friday at the National Assembly compound.

On Wednesday of last week, President Muhammadu Buhari urged the Senate to approve the appointment of Lauretta Ifeanyi-Onochie, his Special Assistant on New Media, as the actual chairperson of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

In the letter, Buhari also listed 14 other people as Managing Director, Executive Directors, and Board members.

They named Samuel Ogbokwu of Bayelsa State as the Managing Director, who will hold the position for the remaining two years of his predecessor’s tenure.

Other members include Hon. Orok Duke of Cross River, Dr. Emem Willcox Wills of Akwa Ibom, Dimgba Erugba of Abia State, Denyanbofa Dimaro of Bayelsa State, and Dr. Pius Odudu ( Edo State).

Engineer Anthony Ekenne (Imo State), Hon. Gbenga Edema (Ondo State), Elekwachi Dimkpa (Rivers State), Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Abubakar (Nasarawa State, representing North-Cenral zone), Alhaji Sadiq Sami Sule – Ikoh (Kebbi State, North-West), and Prof. Tahir Mamman SAN were among the others (Adamawa State, North-East).

Additionally, the President proposed Charles Ogunmola of Ondo State and Major-General Charles Airhiavbere of Edo State as candidates for the positions of Executive Director, Finance and Executive Director, Projects, respectively.
