Fans Bid Farewell To Mikel

Nigerians have commended the decision of Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi, to quit international football after the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Mikel, who has won a total of 89 caps for Nigeria, on Sunday, said he would love to mark his exit by winning the 2019 AFCON with the Super Eagles.

Mikel’s announcement to quit international football, however, got commendations from Nigeria.

They hailed the Eagles captain for leaving ‘honourably’, saying that his contributions to the team were immeasurable.

One of the fans, Everest Obilor, said, “Yes Mikel, it’s really time for such and we say big thanks for your wonderful contributions.”

“You have made enormous contributions and will forever be remembered, Nigerians wish you well in your future endeavours,” Okafor Israel added.

Noting that his resignation would give room for new players in the team, another fan, Adamu Bello, said that “I wish our politicians would learn from Mikel, knowing when to retire and encourage younger blood to carry on.

“Thank you so much Mikel, we appreciate your patriotic efforts, dedication and commitment.”

Macignatius Umezurike said, “You have really paid your dues and your name is written in gold in the history of Nigeria’s football.”

Leader Usang apologised to the former Chelsea midfielder over the abduction of his father while he was on international duties for Nigeria.

“Mikel highest point was playing for Nigeria and winning the match with the news of his father’s abduction. Sorry about that,” Usang added.
