All Roads To Uniport As Group Organizes Mental Health, Social Prescribing, April 6
All is set for a Photo walk for Mental Health and Social Prescribing at the University of Port Harcourt which is billed for Thursday, April 6, 2023.
The event being organized by Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship is aimed at building healthier communities and wellbeing in Nigeria and around the world through the intersection of creative practices for overall well being.
The alumni co-ordinator for the West Africa Region, Ashley Ajumoke Stewart in a statement, said the event is life changing for the betterment of mental and physical health, well-being and creativity.
Ms Stewart, a lecturer of Virtual Arts at the department of Fine Arts and Design, University of Port Harcourt, and lead organizer of the Photo walk said she is leveraging on her creative expertise as an artist to bring together the intergenerational population of the University of Port Harcourt Community to the one day event.
The University lecturer contends that creativity is a healing tool for mental health and wellbeing, and when combined with walking outdoors, is the ultimate remedy for the unrelenting stressors of daily life.
According to her, the Arts and Medicine Fellowship focuses on medical humanities and seeks to promote art engagements to alleviate pains and improve the quality of life of families, patients and healthcare professionals.
The high points of the event will include photography, social interaction, walking and virtual exhibition, hoped to bring the community of walkers together in immensely beneficial ways.
