Edagberi-Betterland Community Confers Chieftaincy Titles On Sominas For Academic Excellence
Edagberi-Betterland, an oil rich community in Engenni Kingdom, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, recently played host to Dr. Paul Ezekiel Somina and his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Joyce Somina by conferring on them chieftaincy titles for bagging Ph.D degrees in their various fields of study.
Decorating them in their chieftaincy attires by the council of chiefs, the paramount ruler of the community, HRH, Amb. Sunny Jacob Ubele, the Omaomovie of Engenni Kingdom said the honour was in recognition of their relentless efforts in pursuing their education up to doctorate degree level which places them as second PH.D holders in the community after Dr. O. C. Zudonu who was also given same honour.
He noted that by this academic achievement recorded by husband and wife, the roadmap is now set for others to follow and emulate the shining examples of these illustrious children of the land.
Amb. Jacob Ubele also reiterated the importance of education as a veritable tool to transform any given society, stressing that an ‘Engenni man’ is born great and no obstacle can hinder him from realizing his full potentials and the time for this to happen is now.
While rolling out his strings of achievements since he ascended the throne of great Engenni kingdom especially in the areas of health, human capital development infrastructural facilities, the monarch noted that the provision of two sets of 500KVA transformers to boost power supply to the entire Joinkrama(4), the renewed Edagberi Cottage Hospital by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) billed for commissioning next month are some of the legacy projects executed under his watch and called for all hands on deck to guide and sustain these laudable projects for the benefits of all and sundry.
Responding, the celebrants Dr. and Dr. Mrs. Paul Somina in their separate remarks expressed joy and appreciation for the grand reception accorded them and promised to join hands to move Edagberi-Betterland Community to greater heights, adding that they will do everything possible to encourage the promotion of education through the introduction of career guidance and counseling in the area.
High point of the event was the formal conferment of chieftaincy title of Osudiriga II on Dr. Paul Ezekiel Somina and Osudiriga III on Dr. (Mrs) Joyce Somina who has now broken the record as the first female Ph.D holder in the area. Osudiriga title signifies one who has passion for reading and totally committed to pursuing education to the highest level.
