By Jacob Dickson

The serene community of Omoku in Rivers State has of recent, been making headlines, not only in Nigeria, but the world over.

Even though indigenes refer to it as their village, by Nigerian standards, it is a sprawling city with magnificent private and public residential estates springing up.

A visit to the community which is few minutes drive from Port Harcourt the capital of Rivers State leaves no one in doubt, that some important personalities have sacrificed in bringing Omoku to spotlight.

One name that every resident of the community relates with, is Chief Felix Obuah, a prominent son of the soil, who has given much to the community.

He is not just an ordinary son of the soil, but one that when the history of modern day Omoku is mentioned, his name cannot be left out.

A lot of infrastructure that the community boasts of, is directly or indirectly linked to him.

From the well tared dual carriage ways, to luxuriously furnished five star hotels and other attractions, which make the area a tourists delight, to the palatial residence of a proud son on Omoku, Chief Felix Obuah, any visitor to the community feels at home with the warm welcome of residents of the city.

Not many big towns or cities in Nigeria can boast of stadium facility, but Omoku has one, which is a befitting home ground for Go Round FC, a football club known all over the country and beyond.

This again, is another plus for Omoku, courtesy of Chief Felix Obuah. This singular act of his, has registered the name of the community in the hearts of several Nigerians.

Only recently, Omoku hosted the 2023 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Triennial Delegates Conference. That is just the news that many around Nigeria have heard of.

What many may not be privy to, is that only one man made the welfare of delegates from the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) possible.

No need for guessing who had such a noble heart, as delegates shut down two hotels in Omoku, where they were accommodated, provided three square meals daily and were provided a hall for their conference.

Krisdera and Clarion hotels were a beehive of activities all through the four days activities building up to and after the Triennial Delegates Conference lasted.

Sports Writers were excited at the warm reception and ambience both hotels provided for them.

Chief Felix Obuah, was the God sent behind the generousity that saw him spend several millions in accommodating and feeding the delegates.

That act again, has further put his home town, Omoku on the map of the world.

Most are of the opinion that if given the opportunity, they would visit Omoku again and again.
