Accommodation Enhances Teachers’ Productivity, Says Monarch

The Paramount Ruler of Ikuru Town, in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Aaron Ikuru, has identified the provision of residential apartment as necessary in enhancing Teachers’ productivity.

He dropped the hint while inaugurating the second residential quarters for teachers of Community Secondary School, Ikuru town.

King Aaron who disclosed that lack of residential apartment had in the time past posed a major challenge for teachers posted in the community informed that the first residential quarters donated by the Governing Council was a block of 14 single rooms which according to him has since been occupied by teachers of the school.

Regretting, that accommodation challenges had led some of them to become unstable at their work stations he stressed the need for the provision of accommodation for teachers as it will help them settle down and positively impact on teaching and learning.

“As a retired teacher, I quite understand the challenges faced by teachers, who reside outside the school environment and the inherent burden in terms of rent.

“In my years of practice, I can also attest to the positive impact of staff quaters on teachers’ productivity and service delivery,” he said.

The paramount ruler charged the school authority to take advantage of the facility to rededicate itself to the development of education in the area and pledged to promote Education in his domain through the provision of improved teaching and learning facilities.

He further lauded the trustees of Green Energy/Lake Oil Joint Venture for collaborating with the Governing Council to donate the second quarters of six bedroom apartment to the school noting that the company has  remained faithful to the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the parties involved in terms of their corporate social responsibility to the community.

Responding on behalf of the joint venture, the Administrative Manager of the company, Mrs Ibioku Amachree, expressed appreciation to the Governing Council of Ikuru town for its cooperation.

She said that the joint venture would remain supportive of positive initiatives geared toward improving the living standards of the people in its host community.

On his part,  the Principal of the Senior Secondary Section of the school, Mr Abadi Thursday thanked the community for the gesture and promised to put the facility to good use.
