FIDA Condemns Wives’ Assault On Men In Rivers

The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, has vehemently condemned the incessant cases of assault by wives on their husbands.

Chairperson of FIDA, Adata Bio-Briggs, expressed dismay over the incident in an exclusive interview with TNN.

Bio-Briggs condemnation was following the two cases recorded recently in Rivers State.

Recall that on Friday, October 13, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Kokio confirmed the arrest of a certain Mrs. Favour Nwokoro over attempted murder.

Favour was arrested for bathing her husband, Mr. Elelediri Nwokoro hot groundnut oil over domestic issues. The incident happened at White House Lion Street, Igwuruta, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

Barely three days after the arrest, another case was confirmed, that a certain Mrs. Godslove Olakada from Akwa Ibom State but married to an Agbonchia Eleme man in Rivers, poured hot water on her husband, Mr. Olakada Ejiro, over same domestic family issue.

According to FIDA Chairperson, “We are not happy about the development. Violence is not something that should be melted out to anybody, no matter the provocation, so we encourage the prosecutors to ensure that justice is done.”

Bio-Briggs noted that, “surprisingly it’s not the first time, it’s not the second time, it’s not the third time we are hearing such news.

At our centre we receive complains from men also, so it’s not as if it’s new that we are hearing that women are doing this.

“I wasn’t happy but there is nothing you can do in that situation, you just have to tell people, spread the message more that violence is not the best resort when there is provocation.”

She advised that, “the best thing to do when you are in such an angry state is to walk away instead of allowing yourself commit murder or that kind of act of pouring someone harmful substance.”
