Emohua Council Boss Declares State Of Emergency On Food Production
The Executive Chairman of Emohua local government council, Chief David Omereji says plans have reached advanced State to make the local government area the highest food producer in the state.
To this end he has declared a State of Emergency in the Agricultural sector in the area.
Speaking to newsmen on his plans in the area of agriculture in the LGA, Chief Omereji said the Council would in the coming days invite genuine and practical farmers to indicate interest in which area of agriculture they would want to participate to enable preparatory work towards the take off of the Go Back to Farm scheme in 2025 to commence.
He said under the arrangement, genuine farmers would be supported to grow crops and livestock that would add to the agriculture value chain of the LGA.
“Under this arrangement we hope to be inviting genuine farmers, not portfolio carrying farmers to indicate their interest in which area of farming they would want to invest in.
After this, preparatory work will start towards effective launch and take off of the project in 2025″, he declared.
Chief Omereji disclosed that the target is to ensure increased food production in Emohua and also become the largest producer of catfish in the state.
The Emohua Council Boss said, “With this the LGA will be contributing it’s quota towards attaining food sufficiency in the LGA and the state at large and we are committed towards achieving this so our LGA can become a big exporter of foodstuffs, including cassava, maize, poultry products and catfish”. He called on the people of the area, including women and Youths desirous of taking a career in Agriculture to take advantage of what he terms, “a golden opportunity” to empower themselves economically.
