NCSU Urges Rivers Lawmakers To Collaborate With Governor Fubara For State Stability
The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has called on members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to work in harmony with Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid renewed political tension following the defection of 17 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rivers State Chairman of the NCSU, Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, made the appeal in an interview in Port Harcourt, warning that the escalating political rift could once again hinder development in the state.
Osumah noted that Rivers people were yet to recover from the hardship experienced during the six-month state of emergency previously imposed on the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He urged all political actors — especially lawmakers—to prioritize peace and cooperation to avoid a repeat of that “ugly experience.”
He emphasised that Governor Fubara has demonstrated genuine commitment to the welfare of Rivers people, including members of the Assembly, and advised lawmakers not to misinterpret the Governor’s intention in pushing for the completion of the Assembly complex before submitting the list of commissioners or presenting the 2026 budget.
According to Osumah, the perceived delay should not be a basis for conflict but an opportunity for understanding and cooperation.
“The lawmakers should show maturity and restraint,” he said. “Working harmoniously with the Governor is essential for the progress of our state. Governor Fubara’s love for Rivers people is unmatched.”
The NCSU chairman added that civil servants and other well-meaning residents will continue to support and pray for the Governor’s success.
With the festive season approaching, he expressed optimism that the Governor would make decisions that would “put smiles on the faces of workers and Rivers people.” He reaffirmed that civil servants remain solidly behind Governor Fubara and are committed to rallying around him as the state navigates its current political challenges, saying, wherever the Governor goes, the workers would go with him.
