APC Rakes In Over N1.5b From Rivers Aspirants` Form Purchasees

Amid flyers, claims and counter-claims by the factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers over whose candidates were cleared and not cleared in the just concluded screening of party aspirants ahead of the 2027 election which have become more contentious in the state, one thing remains indisputable.

Of the 98 candidates that bought the party’s nomination and intent forms for the State House of Assembly at the rate of Six million (N6,000,000.00) naira  each , the APC ostensibly raked  in not less than Five Hundred and Eighty-eight million (N588,000,000.00) naira.

Juxtaposed against  the amount raised from the four governorship aspirants who paid Fifty million (N50, 000,000.00) naira each  totaling the sum of Two Hundred million  (N200, 000,000.00) naira from the four aspirants, One Hundred and Eighty million (N180,000,000.00) naira from the nine aspirants juggling  for the three senatorial districts of the state, Three Hundred and Ninety million (N390,000,000.00) naira collected from the 39 aspirants at the rate of Ten million (N10,000,000.00) naira each  for the House of Representatives naira (13 aspirants from each camp), the APC has smiled home with nothing short of N1.5billion from only APC aspirants in Rivers state.

Political commentators say though the state is poorer for it, the ultimate beneficiaries are those behind the political crisis in the state that has pitched friends and party men against one another.

It is also believed that by the time all the contending parties are done with their sale of nomination and intent forms for their Primaries, the sum would have risen to over Five billion naira yet the average Rivers man hardly affords one square meal a day.

The colossal waste they argue would have been avoided but for the unending crisis and fragile alliances that have exposed the irreconcilability of Rivers Politicians.
