NDDC Boss Tasks Women Journalists On Professionalism

The new chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Lauretta Onochie  has asked Women Journalists in the region to re -awaken the consciousness of the society and uphold the ethics of the profession.

She gave the charge when members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State Chapter, paid her a courtesy visit at the Commission’s head office in Port Harcourt.

Mrs Onochie  asked them to do their work diligently as irresponsible reportage has caused more pains in the society,  adding that they  must learn to report issues exactly as it happened, irrespective of whose ox is gored.

“Everything is not about politics, be the conscience and soul of the state. Where all failed, the fourth estate of the realm must stand dispassionately to defend the truth.

“As you do your job remember that there are more people in Nigeria, who do not belong to any political party so your reportage should be for the wellbeing of the people and nation as the fourth estate of the realm. That is your principal role”, she reiterated.

The NDDC boss who was also a member of NAWOJ charged female journalists to look at things dispassionately, irrespective of their political affiliations, stressing that everything is not about politics.

She thanked members of NAWOJ for extending hands of friendship, and promised to collaborate with NAWOJ for the betterment of the Niger Delta.

Earlier,  the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, Mrs. Susan Serekara-Nwikhana had harped on the need for NDDC to partner with women journalists to promote the region while highlighting the challenges of women in the region.
