Gov Wike Urged To Immortalize Late Oba Of Ogbaland, Accord Official Recognition To Eze Iyasira Stool

A Passionate Appeal has gone to Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to immortalize the immediate Past Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Sir (Dr.) Chukumela Nnam, Obi II, by naming one critical project in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital after him.

The Mmboh Krikri of Ogbaland, and member of the Umu-Ebe (Edihuru) royal kindred of Ogba Ethnic Nationality, Prince Charles Amadike-Otoboh, who made the appeal in a press statement while thanking Gov. Wike for presenting staff of office and certificate of recognition to the incumbent Oba (Eze-Ogbaland), His Eminence, Barr (Dr.) Nwachuku Sunday Obuoha Nnam Obi III, , noted that the immediate past Oba of Ogbaland deserved to be immortalized considering what he represented in the Country during his life time.

According to Prince Amadike who is also the media officer Oba’s Palace Omoku, the former Oba deserves to be immortalized by naming either of these projects: The Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Port Harcourt, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers Secretariat, Port Harcourt, the Omoku-Elele Road, Model Boys Secondary School, Omoku, Community Girls Secondary School, Omoku, among others.

He further disclosed that Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi II was the first traditional ruler in Rivers State to Chair the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers for three times 1972-1979; 1994-1996 and 2007-2099, pioneer President of traditional rulers of the Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria, (TROMPCON) 1994-2000 and a founding member of Conference of Traditional Rulers of old Eastern States of Nigeria established in 1985.

He also served as a member of the International Committee on Chieftaincy and Royalty and was Nigeria’s representative for FESTAC 1974-1977.

He was also the Pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Imo State, from 1980-1984, and was later appointed the Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Ondo State 1992-2001.
