Oyigbo Council Boss Calls On INEC To Conclude Rivers Election Results, Declare Wike Winner
The Oyigbo Local Government Area Chairman, Prince Gerald Oforji, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to call off the suspension placed on the Rivers State election result announcement and declared Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike the winner of the gubernatorial and State Assembly election.
Speaking with newsmen over the weekend in Oyigbo shortly after the suspension order, Oforji described the development as a rape on democracy.
He made it known that despite the sponsored activities of the military to manipulate the election in favour of the African Action Congress (AAC), the adopted party of Amaechi faction of the APC, that from all indications the PDP candidates were cruising home to victory before the INEC/military intervention.
The council boss also used the opportunity to condemn the killings, maiming and intimidation of Oyigbo and indeed Rivers people in course of the election and called for investigation of those behind the military incursion into Rivers election process with a view to bringing them to book.
According to him “any compromised result that does not favour the PDP will not be accepted by Rivers people who had used the opportunity of the election to reciprocate the governor’s good performance in governance”.
On the activities of the aggrieved APC supporters, Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi and the INEC officials, the council boss said it is unfortunate that a former governor would descend so low to destroy his own people because of personal vendetta.
According to him, “It was their party’s internal wrangling caused by greed which made the Supreme Court to delist the APC from the ballot and not Governor Wike or the PDP that caused their problem”. They should blame nobody but themselves and there is nothing anybody can do about it until 2023. Any other method besides the ballot boxes to remove a sitting performing governor is not only illegal but unacceptable and would be resisted by Rivers people who have renewed his mandate on March 9, 2019,” he stated.
Prince Oforji made it clear that under a free and fair election, Governor Wike will win any opponent in his re-election bid any day with a wide margin because he has been tested and trusted.
The Oyigbo council chairman further disclosed that even the decamped APC members confessed that truly Wike is “Mr. Quality Projects” as nicknamed by no less a person than the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, himself being an opposition leader.
