Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State Council has called on the Police in the state to support her in fighting quackery in the profession.
The chairman of NUJ Rivers State Council, Mr Job Stanley Job made the call during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, C. P. Usman A. Belel in his office.
He called on the Police to assist the NUJ Committee on Quackery in fishing out and prosecuting impersonators in the profession as their worrisome activities are rediculing the profession.
He also noted the need for a more cordial relationship between the police and the media stressing the need to close up the existing gap between the two Organizations in the State.
Mr Job who described the duty of the Police as important in securing lives and property urged the police to increase their efforts so as to ensure that crime is brought to the barest minimum in the state while frowning at the rate at which most Communities in the state have been sacked as a result of cult related activities.
Responding, the State Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel said the media is a very crucial partner in fighting crimes and promised to give NUJ the necessary suspect in ensuring that the noble profession is not messed up.
He reiterated Police commitment to fight crime and ensure peace in the State hinting that Police has initiated some programs to reach out to leaders, youths and children and educate them on the dangers of cultism as well as how those who fail to shun cultism will be handled.
