Peeved by the incessant cases of cultism and kidnapping on fellow humans as articles of trade, His Royal Majesty, Babari Bagia Paago, the Gbere Mene of Gokana, has called on the youths of the area to shun all acts of criminality so as to ensure better future and society.
He made the call during the security meeting organized at his palace in Gionkoo Gokana Local Government Area, pointing out that the people of Gokana would no longer tolerate any act capable of undermining the peace and progress of the area.
Chief Kpobari Baadom who spoke on behalf of the king of Gokana shortly after the meeting said the security meeting discussed among other things issues bordering on protection of lives and property as well as other problems affecting the people of the area. He however enjoined all Paramount Chiefs from Gokana to take their duties seriously and ensure prompt and regular attendance of all meetings conveyed by the Gbere Mene of Gokana.
Also, he directed them to be alert and ensure that the spillover of criminal gangs from neighbouring communities of Kono Boue in Khana Local Government Area does not infiltrate into Gokana.
The royal father while admonishing the people to imbibe the culture of love, peace, harmony and co-existence admitted that there had been few cases of killings in Gokana since the cult war in Ogoniland started. He pledged his continuous partnership and support for the Gokana local government chairman to ensure the sustenance of peace.
On his part, Meme Michael Porobunu, the chairman of Gokana Council of traditional rulers and elders expressed optimism that the move would stem security and restiveness as directed by the Governor Chief Nyesom Wike in the area, promised to continue to do their best until lasting peace is achieved, adding that the solution to the problem does not lie in the hands of government alone.
While expressing joy over the large turnout of the members of Gokana Council of Chiefs at the meeting, he called on the youths to eschew violence and embrace peace.
Also speaking, Mene-kotex Dira, Gbene Mene I of Ogoniland appealed to government to support the traditional rulers, stressing that no government can run successfully without the traditional rulers. He blamed the insecurity in Gokana on drug addiction, suggesting that most of the beer parlours in the area should be closed down in order to achieve any meaningful result.
According to him, “I fight against anything insecurity in Gokana, by going to the village, preaching peace. We are doing our very best to bring security problem to the bearest minimum”.
Mene Barisika Kabee, the president Gokana youth council also bare his mind on the matter, advising the youths of the area to embrace peace and surrender their arms and ammunition as failure to do so will attract unpleasant consequencies.
