Sir. Ike Chinwo, the former member of the National Assembly representing Obio/Akpo federal constituency has advised Nigerians to assist the less privileged in the society so as to make them useful to themselves and the society.
He made the disclosure during the visit by the members of Evo Diocese Anglican Communion of Nigeria to the Matter Dei Girls Centre, an orphanage home in D-Line as part of activities marking the 10th year Anniversary of the Diocese.
Mr. Chinwo who is the chairman of the 10th Anniversary Planning Committee of the Diocese of Evo expressed worry over the difficulties faced by the people especially the less privileged as a result of the economic hardship in the country. He urged all well meaning individuals, NGOS as well as faith based organizations to assist in carrying them along in the scheme of things, while commending Matter Dei Girls Centre for taking the bold step by providing succor for the less privileged and the vulnerable in the society. He promised that the Diocese of Evo will continue to partner with them.
According to him, “As part of our 10 years Anniversary as a Diocese, we thought it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable members of our society and that is why we are here at this centre, there is a lot of people that has been abandoned as a result of one reason or the other and this NGO decided to rehabilitate them.
“We heard about them and we decided to pay them a visit, over here we saw a lot of young girls who are being catered for by this organization and we have told them to take what they have being thought and they have acquired very seriously so that they can be useful to the society”.
Apart from the Matter Dei Girls Centre, he also revealed that his team has visited several orphanage homes the homes of the elderly, hospitals including BMH and UPTH where they were able to pay off the hospital bills of some indigent patients.
He maintained that the Diocese of Evo has over the years supported the less privileged and other members of the society by helping them to acquire skills, apart from providing for them financially.
Also speaking, Mrs. Chiyere Uchena Ordu, who stated that the visit was carried out as a result of the contributions of the church to the society said Anglican Church especially Evo Diocese will not wait and expect government to provide everything, saying since the government cannot meet the needs of all Nigerians that is why they have come to show the people the support. On his part Venerable Alex Osikpo, director Saint Michael Rumasi Anglican Church also urged the political class to emulate Jesus Christ who he described as a servant leader, adding that they should give themselves for the betterment of Nigeria not to acquire all the wealth at the expense of others.
Several gift items such as air conditioner, office tables, computers, clothing and food items were donated as support to the home.
