Renewed Cult War In Khana Claims Lives As Council Boss Bares Fangs
…Rt. Hon. Dekor Condemns Incident, Calls For Arrest Of Perpetrators
Irked by renewed clashes by suspected cult groups which resulted in wanton destruction of loves and properties in some communities in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Wednesday, Council Chairman, Hon. (Barr) Lahteh Loolo has vowed to track those responsible for the attacks and bring them to book.
The Khana Council boss who stated this when he visited Okwale, Nyokuru and Taabaa Communities on Wednesday, said the council would leave no stone unturned to ensure the perpetrators are fished out wherever they may be hiding.
Loolo charged security agencies to be tough on criminal elements in the communities even as he gave the order for them to deal ruthlessly and decisively with any group of persons, or anyone linked to such barbaric act.
His words: “My government will no longer tolerate any form of violence in this LGA. I will go after criminals hiding in every nook and crannies of Khana Local Government Area and we shall deal with them, irrespective of whose ox is gored”.
While describing the incidents as unfortunate, the Khana Council Chairman said it was pertinent for communities to forge collaboration with security agencies to nip criminality in the bud.
He called on the people to provide useful information that will lead to the arrest of those connected to these heinous crimes, adding that their information would be treated in strict secrecy.
Meanwhile, normalcy is said to be gradually returning to the affected communities after the Chairman’s visit where he ascertained the level of destruction carried out by the criminals.
He also appealed to people in the affected communities to go about their normal businesses and not to be afraid about the presence of security personnel deployed to the communities.
However National Network checks indicate wide condemnation of the despicable acts as Ogonis from the wide spectrum lamented the renewed cult war and orgy of destructions.
Many of those who spoke, rued the unfortunate attacks which reportedly claimed scores of lives climaxing with the razing down of the house of Comrade Legborsi Pyagbara in Nyokuru Community as well as that of Chief Nule (Jnr) in Taabaa Community.
While also calling on the police and the Special Joint Military Task Force to ensure the return of peace to the troubled communities by going after the perpetrators of the barbaric acts.
“This ugly situation demands urgent and thorough actions by the security agencies and every necessary action required of the government”, a concerned Ogoni told National Network.
In his reaction, the member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor regretted the level of killings that happened in Taabaa, Okwale and Nyokuru Communities, saying “You can see the level of destruction in these communities, both human and properties. I understand in Okwale, about 5 persons were killed. Taabaa also lost about 5 persons and several properties destroyed”.
He revealed that those who perpetrated the acts are in a nearby forest and called on security agencies to spare no stone unturned in getting to arresting all those involved to serve as deterrent to others.
