Delga Legislative Assembly Leader, Rt. Hon. Fayeofori, Charges Youths On Need For Peace To Attract Development
Leader of the Degema Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Philip Fayeofori, has appealed to youths of Tombia Community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State to embrace peace in order to attract development to their area.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Tombia on Monday, facilitated by the four Councillors representing the Community in the Degema Legislative Assembly, in collaboration with the Executive Chairman of Delga, Hon. Dr. Tony Philmoore, the PDP chieftain stressed that only a peaceful and receptive environment would attract government’s presence, as according to him, the people should not only be seen as stakeholders but should equally take ownership and responsibility for the protection of government’s infrastructural investments in their domain.
He stated that Tombia could not afford to go down to the base level of thuggery, gangsterism, cultism and drug abuse, which characterize a failed society.
Hon. Fayeofori disclosed that the legislative arm in collaboration with the Council Chairman had earmarked some projects to be executed in Tombia and would need the cooperation of the people to make it succeed.
He warned troublemakers and armed thugs perpetrating acts of lawlessness due to absence of security personnel to stop forthwith, as the Chairman of Council had concluded plans to deploy security operatives, through the recently launched ‘Degema Sting’ operation to properly police the community in the coming days.
Earlier, the Community Police Officer in charge of Tombia Division, Mr. Bele Origbenba had lamented the influx of hoodlums into the community, who go about terrorising law abiding indigenes owing to the absence of government security agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Tombia Council of Chiefs, Chief Ifuro-Iyalla Dickson, commended the initiative of Leader of the Degema Legislative Assembly and his colleagues in bringing peace and development to Tombia, assuring that the community was always ready to support government’s projects as well as create the enabling environment.
He said Tombia is a peace loving community and in dire need of government’s presence in infrastructure and human capital development.
