With the death of iconic statesman and nationalist, High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs now a subject of controversy, wife of the deceased, Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs has revealed that the Chairman of Platform Petroleum and second son of the deceased, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has instituted thirteen suits against her amid claims that she was responsible for the delay in the burial of his late father.
Making the revelation through a statement by her spokesman, Oraye St. Franklyn, the widow said the suits were instituted against her after the death of the celebrated High Chief in April, 2019.
The widow who described the suits as frivolous, alleged that the suits were ‘secretly filed’ in spite of Dumo’s public statements that he had no interest in the estate of his father and that his only wishes were either to find the cause of death of his father or to give his father a befitting burial, adding that he often made this statements depending on who he is speaking to at the material time.
Stressing that she was not in any way responsible for the delay in the burial of her husband, the widow emphasized that there has not been any legal prohibition from anyone, anywhere in the world on the burial of High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, even though, as she claimed, Dumo wants the public to believe otherwise.
The statement read: “Despite the fact that Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, a lawyer who ordinarily should not be engaged in forum shopping, has traversed multiple judicial jurisdictions beginning from Omoku in Rivers State, a judicial jurisdiction bearing no nexus with his claims, to Accra Ghana, Abuja and the Port Harcourt Judicial Division of the High Court of Rivers State in what can best be described as transnational abuse of court processes and the misuse of the judicial system in a desperate bid to indict his stepmother for the passing of her husband, his father, High Chief O.B. Lulu Briggs even when he has all material facts that his father died a natural death”.
Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs listed the 13 suits against by Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs to include (1) OHC/20/2019, Rivers State High Court, Omoku Division via Ex Parte Application. (2) OHC/MISC/2019 Rivers State High Court, Omoku Division via Ex Parte Motion. (3) PHC/1309/2019, Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Division via Ex Parte Application. (4) Magistrate Court, FCT, Abuja, Banker’s Order Arising From Petition To IGP.
Others are Suits Nos. 5, 6 and 7: Coroner’s Court Kaneshie District Magistrate Court, Accra, Ghana via Ex Parte Application. (8) GJ/1600/2019, High Court of Ghana, Counter-Claim against Seinye Lulu-Briggs. (9) Probate Registry of the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Division, Notice to Prohibit Grant. (10) PHC/2520/2019, Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Division via Motion on Notice.
Other law suits include: (11) Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Division via an Ex Parte Application. (12) PHC/2751/2019, Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Division via an Ex Parte Application; and (13) Coroner’s Court of the Kaneshie District Magistrate Court, Accra, Ghana via an Ex Parte Application.
Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs averred that “nobody but Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs is personally responsible for why his father has not been interred”, adding that he should be prevailed upon to respect the legacy of his father and end what she called “wicked public spectacle”, even as she urged him respect his father’s Will which the late Lulu-Briggs reportedly directed on how he wishes to be buried.
