UNIPORT Business School Graduates  89, As School’s Director Appeals For  Commitment

The University of Port-Harcourt Business School (UPBS) has graduated 89 of its students of 2018/2019 session at a graduation ceremony held at the school’s premises on Saturday.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony which was first in the school’s history, the Director of UPBS, Prof. Okey Onuchuku, while congratulating graduating students, asked them to show “commitment” to their alma mater, saying that the school would partner with them for their future development.

Speaking on his challenges when he became director of the institution, Prof. Onuchuku said that he inherited a dilapidated building with leaking roof and zero online presence in the institution.

He said that he also inherited high cost of running the school and some debts and a power plant which was not working out of two.

He said he had carried out massive renovation in the school with fully furnished classrooms, saying that the epileptic power issue in the school was also gone.

He also said that he installed CCTV cameras in the institution for security purposes, adding that he introduced new programmes in the institution.

Prof. Onuchuku further said that he paid all outstanding debts in the institution, saying staff of the institution were promptly paid and not owed.

A total of 89 students graduated from the University of Port-Harcourt Business School during the graduation ceremony.

There were 10 graduating students of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), 24 graduating students of Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), 37 graduating students of Master of Business Administration (MBA) and 18 graduating students of Master of Science (MSc).

In her remarks, the Dean of School of Graduate Studies, University of Port-Harcourt, Prof. Anthonia Okerengwo, said that the University of Port-Harcourt Business School moved with the speed of light from what it was to what it is now, saying that the school is one of the foremost in the country.

She congratulated the graduating students and said convocation ceremony would come later and appealed to them to be good ambassadors of the institution.

She said she was proud and happy to be part of the school’s graduation ceremony and wished the graduating students well in their future endeavours in business.

Earlier, in his opening speech, Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Barinua Nwinee, said many achievements had been recorded by the University of Port-Harcourt Business School under the school’s current management, saying  the school is foremost business school under the current management  because it was repositioned that way, and congratulated  the graduating students.

He said they must continue learning and work rigorously and never give up.

The Vice Chancellor of University of Port-Harcourt, Prof. Ndowa Lale, said in his address that the University of Port-Harcourt Business School had undergone great changes under the current director of the institution, saying that it takes “creativity to make things different”.

He said that he was ready to make any sacrifice to make sure that Prof. Onuchuku succeeds and thanked the management team of the institution for working dedicatedly with him.

He said the brand of University of Port-Harcourt was one of the most sought-after brands in the world and appealed to graduating students of the University of Port-Harcourt Business School to protect what they have and congratulated them.

At the event, graduating students of the University of Port-Harcourt Business School had a handshake with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port-Harcourt.

Some of the graduating students who spoke in an interview said academic standards were very high in the University of Port-Harcourt Business School.

The graduation ceremony of the University of Port-Harcourt Business School was attended by principal officers of the University of Port-Harcourt and friends and families of graduating students.
