Group Urges S/South States To Collaborate On Security, Economic, Infrastructural Projects
The Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND) has appealed to states in South/South region to collaborate on security, economic and infrastructural projects for growth of the region.
The group said that it was time for states in the region to work together on security, economic and infrastructural projects for growth of the region.
It stated these in communiqué at end of New Year national executive council meeting in Port-Harcourt.
The group, in the communiqué signed by Owo Udoh (National Chairman) and Midiom-Oniso Richard Monday (National Secretary), appealed to states in the South/South region and National Assembly members from the region “to plan and set up South/South Region Security Network that will address security challenges of the region” saying “it is time for states in the region to start working on security, economic and infrastructural projects for growth of the region”.
PAFOND advised Akwa Ibom state government and stakeholders to put away political differences and draw attention of the federal government to developing the state.
It said development of the Ibaka deep seaport and other major infrastructural projects would unlock economic activities and attract investors, adding that the government should put more effort in power generation projects.p
PAFOND said big investors within and outside the country have indicated interest in investing in Akwa Ibom state but are waiting for infrastructural facilities to be in place before doing so.
This was as the group said other state governments in the region should pay more attention to empowerment and other projects to boost their state’s economic activities and create jobs.
PAFOND appealed to the federal government to make funds available for developmental projects in South/South including Ibaka and other deep seaports in the region.
