Neighbourhood Watch Should Be Adopted As Security Outfit
A security expert and Deputy National Commandant of the Man ‘O’ War, Nigeria, Operations, Intelligence and Monitoring, Rev (Amb) Kriss Natty Rissi has advised the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to immediately reactivate the “Neighbourhood Watch” Security Outfit that was politically silenced despite its endorsement by the State House of Assembly last year.
Speaking with newsmen in his office over the weekend in Port-Harcourt, Commander Rissi said that now that all the zones of the country have been given approval to set up their own private security outfit, to compliment the activities of the security agents, it would not be out of place for the South-South zone to adopt the “Neighbourhood Watch” and empowered to secured the people since from all indication the Federal Government has failed Nigerians in this regards.
“President Buhari already knows his short comings and should sit up”, he declared.
Amb Rissi thanked the South-West governors for the unity of purpose they exhibited in the establishment of “Omotekun” security outfit for the zone which he noted, gave way for others to follow.
He said that it is no longer news that the security architechture of the country has collapsed, pointing out that the army and the police alone cannot effectively combat security.
“There is no big man in this country that does not get the services of security men or escort to secure him and so security should be accorded the priority it deserves,” he said.
He equally advised that since Man “O” War as a para-military agency that under went various security trainings, there is nothing wrong if they are empowered to support in securing the people, adding that every hands must be on deck as security he noted, should be everybody`s business.
“The gruesome murder of the Adamawa Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other Christians by the Boko Haram insurgent group with impunity, the security expert said the killings has continued unabated because Christians and indeed the Southern Nigerians have been paying lip services to the issue or turning the other cheek for them to strike.”
“If we are empowered and encouraged to also retaliate, these nonsense will stop. They too have their own people here with us”, he roared.
By the time we too start killing their own people here, even the reluctant Service Chiefs will sit up to their responsibilities, adding that no particular group or tribe has the monopoly to violence”.
