Gang War Looms In Rivers State University As Cultists Regroup

…Police Arrest Two Student Suspects

Reports reaching our news desk say cult groups may have started regrouping at Rivers State University, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt following a clash between suspected cult groups at the popular ‘Back Gate’ of the institution on Thursday.

National Network gathered that suspected cultists, believed to be members of the notorious ‘Vikings’ fraternity had accosted a student believed to be second-in-command of another cult group called ‘Klansmen’ on suspicion of shooting to death one Prince Tuwaka, a final year student of RSU last year, whom sources say was a former ‘Axeman’ or second in command of the Vikings cult group, when he was shot dead.

We gathered that the suspected Klansmen cult leader narrowly escaped shots fired by the suspected Vikings members. The sound of the gunshot attracted men of the Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters who rushed down to the scene and arrested two suspected Vikings members and the suspected leader of the Klansmen groups and took them to the station.

The clash came few hours after the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike appointed Professor S. Nlerum Okogbule as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Checks by National Network show that the cultists could not carry out their activities on the campus due to high level of security in the institution with Police patrol vans visible at the back and main entrance of the school.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile line, neither did he pick calls put across to him by our reporter.

However, many students confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, students of the institution who spoke under condition of anonymity called on the School management to ensure adequate security in and around the campus to forestall a repeat of the incident that led to the shooting of the final year student last year on campus.

It would be recalled that Governor Wike queried the then Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Blessing Didia  a day after Prince Tuwaka, a final year student was shot dead on campus.
