Rivers Legacy Schools To Be Revived By RSG
With the renewal programme embarked upon by the Rivers State Government on schools, some long ignored legacy schools in Rivers State are set to get a new lease of life.
This was made known by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike while on an inspection visit of the ongoing construction at the Government Comprehensive School and Enitonia High School both in Borokiri, Port Harcourt.
Acknowledging the importance of ensuring students are given a conducive environment to learn, he noted that priority should not be given to building new schools while leaving the existing schools to rot.
“These are schools that have made a name and we must not allow them to die off, even if we build a new school somewhere it is not the same as Comprehensive or Enitonia so we must bring back those schools that gave the State popularity”, he maintained.
The Governor who disclosed that the Government Comprehensive School has been fenced off to stop the encroachment on their premises said the Government is renovating old structures and putting up new structures to accommodate the students.
He also revealed the state Government’s plan to discuss with the Churches on how to revive prominent missionary schools which according to him made great impact on the education of Rivers people in past while assuring to bring to standard schools like Okrika Grammer School, Baptist High School and some of the schools that have been taken over by the missionaries.
