Galaxy Music Award: Azubuike Dreams Big As Event Goes Regional
Music lovers across the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria are in for a treat as they would have the chance to nominate their favourite artist for the 2020 Galaxy Music Award (GMA) billed for December.
The Convener of the Award, Mr. Stanley Godfrey Azubuike who announced this in a press release made available to National Networkon Monday, said the 2020 Galaxy Music Award will be the third in a series after two successful editions.
He said the award, originally bestowed on Port Harcourt based artists locally and internationally, will now cover the entirety of the South South and the South East regions, aimed at creating what he called an alternative industry.
“At the GMAs we are passionate about the South South/South East, capitalizing on its massive talent pool, unique culture, lifestyle and remarkable potential to create its own thriving entertainment industry”, Azubuike declared.
According to him, for a country of over 200 million people, one thriving entertainment hub is not just enough.
“Add this to the fact that down South, with about 50million people, having hundreds of thousands of incredible talents, the need for its own entertainment hub becomes even more apparent”, he posited.
He said this year’s Awards comes with a lot of insights and improvements that would benefit contributing sponsors and partner brands, adding that with the ravaging effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, The GMA will be hosted virtually and on terrestrial television, a move he said, would help in maintaining social distancing and all Covid-19 rules, noting that with a targeted 50 million viewers, the GMA will be aired on Dstv and Gotv respectively.
Referencing the popular American actor, writer, producer and director, Tyler Perry’s famous quote “While others looked for a sit at the table, I built a table”, Azubuike said Perry must have been talking about the GMAs. As he put it: “That’s because over here, we are building a platform for the Down South’s entertainment industry from the ground up”.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s award which is ‘The Alternative Industry’, Azubuike, a graduate of Mass Communication at the Rivers State University, revealed that GMA 2020 would kickstart a movement for an alternative industry, adding that some of the key structures to fall in place would be the launch of Galaxy Xtreme Music Channel and the GX Music App for music stream.
The event convener disclosed that nomination platform opened on Monday, September 7, 2020 and would end on Friday, 18th September, 2020, urging nominees who must be of South South/South East extraction, to visit Galaxymusicawards.com to nominate their favorite artists for the award.
