Rivers Assembly Reiterates Commitment For Effective Legislation
Rivers State House of Assembly has reiterated its commitment towards effective legislations in the state, saying that the various standing committees of the House would always collectively focus on matters that positively impact on the people of the state.
Speaker of the House, Mr Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani gave the assurance at plenary during its 126 legislative sitting.
He said the House would ensure that all its actions are carried out collectively in the interest of the various constituencies. and commended the various House committees especially the House committee on Public Complaints and Petition that have successfully summoned Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and other affected stakeholders to appear before it.
The Speaker who charged the various committees to ensure speedy presentation of their reports on the various committee sessions hinted that the House was working tirelessly to ensure that all complaints brought before it were treated in accordance with the laws of the state.
It would be recalled that in February the House committee on Public Complaints and Petition had summmoned the Asari-Toru Local Government Council chairman, Mr Alaso Obi alongside principal officers in the council to appear before it.
The summon was in respect to issues bothering on an alleged impeachment of some legislative members and other matters in the area.
During the committee session the committee assured the councillors of its readiness to ensure peace across the various constituencies.
