International Forest Day: Efforts to Save Mangroves Receive Boost 

Towards protecting the mangroves in the Niger Delta, there has been a firm commitment by a body to expend 40 per cent of proceeds generated from the sales its works.

Founder of the body, Niger Delta Snapshot, Jerry Chidi has given assurance of its support in commemoration of the International Day of Forests, #MongrovesXpo2021.

 He remarked that the proceeds will be donoted to promote the preservation of mangroves forest in the Niger Delta Region.

In an interview with members of the Nigerian Travels Writers Corps, Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Jerry Chidi made the disclosure over the weekend in Port Harcourt.

According to him, the mangrove forest in the region suffered from over exploitation, environmental degradation and oil spill from the activities of crude prospectors and operators of illegal crude refinery, noting that there is the need for an action plan to regenerate the Niger Delta mangroves for sustainable eco-friendly interdependence of its fora and fauna.

He stated that the focus of the Niger Delta Snapshot is to change the world with pictures, impact on the local economy and create a renewable mangroves forest through reforestation of the coastal areas with tree planting and cause an action plan that will bring both traditional institution and government together in addressing the Niger Delta eco-system.
