IYC Stakeholders Call For Cancellation Of Election
Stakeholders in three Kalabari-speaking Local Government Areas of Rivers State have called for cancellation of Ijaw Youth Council election known as Kalabari Se Ikangi 2021.
This was revealed by a chairmanship hopeful, Comrade Dumo Clement also known asĀ King Namson Oko Sara 1, who cited alleged irregularities which allegedly characterized the election.
According to him, the total delegates accredited for the election were 111 and three delegates did not vote but 147 delegates had voted which was more than accredited delegates and based on that leader of IYC, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Edi Abali 1, had called for the cancellation of the entire process based on alleged irregularities.
He used the opportunity to alert stakeholders of Ijaw Youth Council and the general public to know Asikitams Edward was not the winner of the election which took place in Obuama Town on September 3 and 4 in Degema Local Government Area.
He called on the Chairman of the Election Committee, Dr. Fred Horsfall, and his team to respect the wishes of stakeholders like Alabo Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, leader of IYC Worldwide, Hon. Chief Sobomabo Jack-Rich, leader of IYC Kalabari Se Ikpangi and critical stakeholders and cancel the election and fix date for a fresh election where stakeholders and Kalabari people would vote for candidate of their choice.
He also urged the electoral committee to do the needful and maintain rules and regulations guiding Ijaw Youth Council.
Comrade Clement called on his supporters to remain calm believing the electoral committee headed by Dr. Horsfall and Secretary Chief Lolo Braide and others would cancel the election allegedly characterized by irregularities which led to their leaders Asari Dokubo, Egberipapa and others walking out of the stage.
The chairmanship hopeful also cited Certificate of Return which was allegedly issued where no name was written and no person had signed including the electoral chairman, secretary and leaders and called for investigation of the certificate of return.
He said that he believed IYC stands for justice saying that he hopes the electoral committee would adhere to the call to cancel the election.
