The Rivers State branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has directed the Christian community in the State to go out enmass to vote for candidates of their choice.
The Association said days are gone when some Christian denominations remained apolitical wrong by believing that politics is unchristian, stressing that biblically the process of electing or appointing leaders started with God.
A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the State Chairman of CAN, Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa and the secretary Archbishop Emmanuel Ogu said as a 100% Christian State which is uncontestable, all Christians in the State should make it a point of seriousness and compulsory to go out on the dates of various elections to vote for persons of their choice but must be a peace loving and Godfearing.
The statement directed all eligible voters to vote wisely and never sell their Christian consciences for a pot of soup that will only take you to both internal and eternal hell, adding that Christians are directed to vote and never spark up violence at the polling units.
They said CAN Rivers State will be unhappy with Christians or Church groups that preach against and bare their members from voting and directed all heads of Churches in the State to urge their members to embark on a 3day fast for peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in all the churches starting from tomorrow as well as repeat it every week untill the elections are over.
CAN also directed Christian organisations or persons involved in INEC job to do it with all sense of sincerity, humility, uprightness so as not to bring any shame to the Church.
The statement strongly appealed to political parties and aspirants to desist from any act of violence rather as Christians should abide to all electoral rules and guidelines aimed at achieving a peaceful and credible election
CAN is also urging INEC and all security agencies to be completely unbiased and play in accordance to the laid down electoral rules and regulations, urging all Rivers residents to abhor that which is evil and cleave to that which is good.
