Gang War: CDC Chair Appeals For Calm

The   Community Development Committee, CDC, Chairman of Rumuolumeni ,in Obio Akpor local government area, Sunny Odum, has appealed to residents of the community to return to their homes as calm has been restored ,following the gang war that erupted in the area which left no fewer than eight people dead.

He stated this while speaking to journalists over the development. He assured that culprits behind the incident will be uncovered, stating that people had reasons to be agitated in the face of crisis.But he called on those who had fled the area to return to their businesses.

He said the security agencies were on top of the situation, which he confirmed was a cult related matter. The CDC Chairman who condemned the incident, expressed confidence that all will be done to ensure such incident did not repeat itself in the community. He said that people should come forward and provide useful information to help the security agents in order to bring about a lasting peace in the area.

Speaking on the development, an elder in the community, Martin Tellue recalled that the gang war that took place in the area had made a lot of people to flee for fear of reprisal by another group. He lamented that following the incident, the community is now a shadow of its former self.

Meanwhile, the crisis rocking Rumuolumeni is not in isolation as there had been similar incidents in Omoku, Emuoha and Ogoni among others. Those affected have continued to call on government and the security agencies to step up efforts to ensure law and order.
