Tumultuous Jubilation In Rivers State Signifies Wike’s Acceptance – Sen. Chukumati

The senator that represented Rivers East District in the third republic, Senator Noble Chukumati has described the tumultuous jubilation that erupted across the State as a result of the eventual declaration of Governor Nyesom Wike as the winner of the 2019 general election as a sign of acceptance and appreciation for the governor by the people of Rivers State.

Speaking with newsmen over the weekend in Port Harcourt, he made it clear that Wike was one of the most performing governor in the country who executed people oriented projects and programmes including human capital development and so deserves re-election, unlike some of his counterparts who he noted curiously empowered their people with wheel barrows and erection of statues of foreign leaders as their achievements.

“And so it is in appreciation of his excellent performance that Gov Wike was re-elected back to the Brick House by the people and there is nothing anybody even Mr. Chibuike Amaechi and his federal might can do about it”, he declared.

Sen. Chukumati made it clear that Wike has met all the constitutional requirements to be re-elected governor and that the law allows any aggrieved persons to go to the electoral tribunal for a redress, adding that any other crooked way other that this process is not constitutional, is condemnable and not acceptable by Rivers people.

The Rumuigbo-born politician recalled how he had predicted four years ago that Gov Wike represents the collapse of ethnic dichotomy, which today has a reality.

He described former Governor Amaechi as an archaic politician who is still living in the past.

According to him, “Amaechi dwelt and savoured the divide and rule tactics of upland/riverine dichotomy where merit is sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity.

He made it clear that Rivers people are in the era where candidates who are competent and have the propensity and capability to lead the people are given the opportunity to do so and not by any other back door and that when the time comes, a widely acceptable candidate chosen out of wider consultation will emerge as Wike’s successor.

Sen. Chukumati described Amaechi’s activities during the 2019 general election as most unfortunate and unbecoming. “What would be the former Rivers governor’s gain or joy for leading soldiers, foreigners and thugs to kill and maim his own people to achieve outsiders agenda”, he stated.

The PDP chieftain used the opportunity to announce that there was no basis for comparison between the Prof. Atahiru Jega led-INEC of 2015 and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu led-INEC of 2019.

The 2019 INEC is most chaotic with its attendant killings. It is frot with the military, SARS and political thugs who were actively involved in the electoral rigging, while the 2015 general election was peaceful with only the police maintaining law and order”.

On the governor’s reconciliatory move and pronouncement, Sen. Chukumati said it is a welcome development, describing the gesture as a typical case of politics without bitterness, adding that if the gesture will be reciprocated, the State will be the most beneficiary of it.

“If the governor has to forgive his enemies in the interest of the State, they too should reciprocate this gesture and sheathe their swords”.

He maintained that in the circumstance that he has been overwhelmingly given the mandate for a second tenure, the governor should hit the ground running by consolidating on providing the dividends of democracy to Rivers people especially the provision of jobs for the teeming unemployed youths whom he noted are wont to engage into cultism and other vices due to idleness.
