Hours after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje promised to sign the bill seeking to split Kano emirate into four, the state’s lawmakers have passed the bill instructing that it should be transmitted to the head of the executive arm for assent.
With the passing of the local government and chieftaincy affairs law, the lawmakers have now decentralized the Kano emirate council giving the status of first class to the new ones.
The Cable reports that the new first-class emirs in the state, will rule Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya emirates.
The bill reportedly followed a petition filed by one Ibrahim Chambers demanding the upgrade of some traditional rulers to the status of first-class emirs.
Legit.ng understands that there had been reports that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje relaunched plans to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano.
It was gathered that the Kano state public complaints and anti-corruption commission on Monday, May 6, reopened investigation into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Sanusi II.
It was also learnt that at Monday’s plenary of the state House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the speaker, read a letter from one Ibrahim Salisu and others, seeking the creation of new Kano emirates in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.
