Dethrone Traditional Rulers Aiding Crime – Eze Tobin

The paramount ruler of Mgbundukwu Community in Mile Two, Diobu, in Port-Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH Eze Onumini I, Owabie Tobin, has advised Governor Nyesom Wike to dethrone any traditional ruler in the state who aids criminals in his domain.

Eze Tobin who gave the advice in an interview in Port-Harcourt said that any traditional ruler who encourages crime in his domain is not a traditional ruler and should not sit upon any throne.

He said that he fully supports Governor Wike in his decision to dethrone traditional rulers in areas where crimes are committed.

Eze Tobin, however, said that Wike should dethrone only traditional rulers known to have encouraged crime in their domains.

The paramount ruler said traditional rulers by their respected positions should not be kidnappers and rapists and should also not encourage anyone to commit crime in their areas of influence.

He said traditional rulers should not “harbour” criminals in their domains and places of residence saying that any traditional ruler who aids criminals “is not a traditional ruler. His certificate should be withdrawn”.

Eze Tobin further said any monarch who encourages criminals in his domain is “spoiling” Rivers State and the country at large.

Governor Wike recently said that he would dethrone all government-recognized traditional rulers in Andoni Local Government Area of the state unless three expatriate workers kidnapped on the Andoni axis of Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Unity Road were released. The three expatriate workers were, however, released on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the paramount ruler of Mgbundukwu Community has appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to recognize his chieftaincy stool saying that Wike was yet to recognize him as a traditional ruler.

He used the occasion to appeal to Governor Wike to work with security agencies in the state to fight and bring crime to an end in Rivers State.
