2,910 Students Admitted As CEAPOLY Holds 29th Matriculation
The newly admitted students of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic have been charged to desist from social vices or risk being deregistered as students of the polytechnic.
Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Samuel B. Kalagbor made the charge during the 29th matriculation ceremony of the institution which held on February 20, at the polytechnic’s Sports Field, Rumuola. A total of 2,910 students were admitted for the 2019/2020 academic session.
In his matriculation address, the rector, Dr. Samuel B. Kalagbor, congratulated the matriculating students and their families and friends who shared in their joy, but warned they should avoid social vices.
Dr. Kalagbor said: “The Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic commits itself to excellence and places high premium on decorum and orderliness in all its endeavours in line with its motto Towards Greater Heights… The institution does not have room for any form of antisocial behavior among students. Vices ranging from secret cult and related activities, sexual harassment, indecent dressing, kidnapping, drug abuse, gambling, examination malpractice and misconduct on the part of both staff and students are not tolerated. You are therefore encouraged to engage in legitimate activities of the Student Union Government and various registered social and religious organizations on campus”.
Describing the occasion as historic, the rector said the polytechnic has over time fulfilled its mandate and is repositioned to do more adding that the graduates of the polytechnic are “adequately” prepared for job placement in industry, government and other social services.
He said the polytechnic is empowered to offer courses of instruction at the National and Higher National Diploma levels adding that academic programmes of the polytechnic are structured to make students become creators of job and wealth on completing their course of study, and advised the students to be part of the school’s entrepreneurship programme to increase marketability.
He said their induction into various academic programmes marks “major landmark” in their journey to eventful career prospect for self-actualization and development of society, and thanked governor of the state for giving attention to the polytechnic.
“The Management, Staff and Students are indeed grateful to His Excellency (Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the Polytechnic) for his enormous interest and contribution to the growth and development of the polytechnic which the Governing Council under the leadership of Senator Engr Lee Maeba has vigorously pursued and sustained,” he said.
He said the school’s management is committed to improving the infrastructural and instructional facilities of the polytechnic hence the development of master plan to meet the needs and growth of the institution.
He said the 29th matriculation ceremony was the school’s second matriculation after its name was changed by governor of the state from Port-Harcourt Polytechnic to Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.
The matriculating students were presented to the Rector by Deans of various Faculties and were admitted into the polytechnic.
The students made matriculation pledge to the polytechnic and “solemnly” and “sincerely” promised and declared they would pay due “respect and obedience to the Rector and other officers of the polytechnic”. They also said they would “faithfully observe all regulations which may, from time to time, be issued by them for the good order and governance of the polytechnic”.
The students promised to “refrain” from acts of violence and membership of secret cult and examination malpractice and other acts that could tarnish the name of the polytechnic or disrupt its work.
Speaking in an interview, some new students said they were happy to be admitted into the polytechnic and promised to take their studies seriously while others said they would be of good behaviour as students of the polytechnic.
Those who spoke include Miss Victory Friday (Business Administration), Danide Pamigey (Science Laboratory Technology), Cynthia Obuka (Accountancy) and Samuel Dick (Computer Science).
Earlier on the day before the matriculation ceremony, the polytechnic held Annual Rededication and Thanksgiving service with theme “Sacrifice of Praise” at school’s Sports Field and was attended by rector of the polytechnic, other principal officers and students with songs and dancing with the guest artiste Silver Wopara.
