COVID-19: RIWAMA, Sole Administrator, Bro Obuah Directs Road Sweepers To  Ensure All Roads Are Clean

…Warns Against Sweeping Dirt Into Gutters, Median Of Roads

The Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah has directed all Road Sweepers working with the Agency to ensure all roads in Port Harcourt, the State capital and its environs are kept clean daily.

Bro. Obuah said the measure is aimed at ensuring that the roads and streets in the city are cleaner and dirt- free at all times.

The RIWAMA Boss stated that a dirt-free environment in the State would complement the efforts of the state government as it battles to contain the spread of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

Bro. Obuah also cautioned Road Sweepers against discharging refuse into gutters adding that dirts swept into gutters block drainage and prevent free flow of water in the gutters, and other water channels.

The RIWAMA Sole Administrator also warned against sleeping and emptying waste onto the median of roads, noting that dirts on the median not only deface the roads but also distort the aesthetic beauty of the city.

He advised Roads Sweepers to ensure that all dirts swept are properly packed and dumped at the receptacles only.

Bro. Obuah further advised Road Sweepers to observe the laid-down precautionary measures by the State Government against contracting COVID-19 by washing their hands regularly; using alcohol-based hand sanitizers and wearing protective gears like hand gloves and medical mask while carrying out their daily duties.

While assuring that the Agency would do everything within its powers to support Governor Wike in keeping the state clean and healthy, Bro. Obuah appealed to Road Sweepers, Service Providers and the entire workforce in the Agency to be proactive and take government’s directives seriously.
