Obalga Communities Sensitize Residents Over COVID-19 Pandemic

Following the threat of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to the Obio/Akpor Local Government Chairman, Hon. Solomon Abel Eke for a total lockdown of the area should they continue their lackadaisical attitude towards the health awareness campaign, the council boss and his executives have been on their toes to avert the wrath of the governor.

To this effect, the council chairman started by soliciting the support of the paramount rulers in this regard.

Consequently, the monarchs oiled their respective committees to continue the monitoring and sensitization of their people and residents with higher vigour on the need for them to observe all the directives of government over the coronavirus pandemic spread especially the social distancing order, avoiding crowd and the stoppage of all skeletal markets in their areas.

In compliance with the directive, Woji COVID-19 committee chaired by HRH, Eze, Sir Amb. Emeka Ihunwo (JP) have continued its daily sensitization tour across Woji Community.

The task force team which comprises of all the members of the Community Development Committee (CDC) led by Comrade Justus Chinwo and executives of Woji Youth Association led by Surv. Kingsley Worlu Chioma has been on their toes since ever.

During one of the sensitization, the committee visited round the community, appealing to the residents and business owners operating in Woji community to heed to the directives of the State government.

They also appealed to them to keep hope alive and to see the restriction directive of the state government as a life saving measure.

Also at Choba community the Paramount Ruler/Nyenweli, HRH Eze Raymond O. W. Okocha raised and inaugurated Choba Special Covid-19 committee to ensure compliance of residents and people of the area to government directives to mitigate the spread of the scourge.

The monarch charged the committee to do all within its powers to cover the entire community in the sensitization programme and to ensure total compliance to the directives of government in order to avert total complete lockdown upon the governor’s warning to the council area.

He charged the committee to be committed to the assignment while promising them the support of the chiefs council.

The committee members includes Obinna Igwe, chairman; Sunny Okocha, secretary; Michael Wordu, member; Patrick W. Wordu, member and Sampson J. C. member.

Others were Ndubuisi Igwe, member; Samuel Oriji, member; and Elder Fred A. Wali, member.

Speaking with newsmen during the start of their assignment along the Choba/Uniport Road, the committee chairman, Mr. Igwe said the committee’s assignment was to appeal to people’s conscience on the need to obey the sit-at-home order while observing all the precautionary measures to stay alive.

“We are appealing to the people especially the shop-owners to be conscious of the governor’s directives not to open and display their goods in careless abandon, adding that the committee has the power to arrest the stubborn ones and seize their wares.

Also speaking, the secretary of the committee, Sunny Okocha said they are committed to their assignment to enforce compliance on the residents in their own interest .

“The government sit-at-home order is not a punishment but to safe guard the peoples lives as government continues to find solution to the global scourge, assuring that the pandemic will surely come and go.”

He thanked God for the negative status of the state so far, praying for the situation to be sustained.

Okocha used the opportunity to commend Gov Wike over what he described as his untiring effort in defending the people and Rivers State interest in general.
