Degema People Also Celebrate As Wike Extends Palliatives To Area 

Selected leaders and people of Degema Local Government Area on Thursday sang the praises of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike after they received their Local Government’s share of the foodstuffs meant to cushion the effect of coronavirus in the State.

Those who received the foodstuffs on behalf of the 17 Wards of the Local Government Area where clerics, traditional rulers, women leaders , community development committees and youth leaders.

(Ward 16) expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Governor for delivering sizeable Palliatives to them following the outbreak of coronavirus.

(Ward 5) and Rev. Ibimina Brown, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Degema Chapter  noted that the will diligently implement the directive of Governor Wike,  which is to ensure that the less privileged get the foodstuffs.

Commissioner for Power,  Hon Diamete Herbert-Miller thanked Governor Wike for his commitment to the welfare and protection of all Rivers people.

Mrs Thankgod Ebinyo, Acting Chairman Degema Local Government Area said that the Wike Administration will continue to work for the benefit of Rivers people, irrespective of their party affiliation.

Managing Director of Rivers State Microfinance Agency, Dr. Ipalibo Sogules said that the foodstuffs will get to the less privileged.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Chairman of the Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, Ambassador Desmond Akawor reiterated that the foodstuffs are meant for those who have no capacity to buy food.

He declared that on no account should the foodstuffs be shared on the basis of the membership of political parties. He said that the foodstuffs are meant for all less privileged people in the State.

The Governor said his administration has established the framework to monitor the sharing process to ensure the less privileged are not shortchanged.

He appealed to the people of Degema Local Government Area to always observe the established health protocols of regular hand washing, wearing of face masks a nd maintaining social distancing.

Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo said that it was the foresight of Governor Wike that ensured that the State kept coronavirus at this bearable level.

She said: “We have not recorded much cases because of the foresight of Governor Wike. These materials are meant for the less privileged. “

She thanked the Rivers State Governor for his commitment to the distribution of the foodstuffs to the less privileged across the 23 Local Government Areas.
