The Federal Government has been commended for establishing the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other intervention Agencies.
The Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State, Sir Dr Emmanuel Eke Ikenyiri, who made the commendation while inspecting on-going and completed projects embarked upon by TETFUND and NDDC in the college to mark his two years in office (17th May 2018-17th May 2020) noted that if not for the effective intervention of the two Federal agencies, educational institutions in the country would have been in bad shapes.
He noted that prior to his administration, internal roads and some buildings in the two Campuses of College were in bad shapes, but expressed appreciation to the former and present management of NDDC and TETFUND for their quick intervention by rehabilitating, constructing and building old and new roads as well as buildings in both campuses of the institution thereby giving the College a face lift.
The Provost also hinted that talks are on-going with the management of NDDC, TETFUND and other intervention Agencies for the fencing of the permanent site (Campus 2) of the college to avoid security challenges, further encroachment by land grabbers and put to stop the activities of herdsmen who have turned the Campus into a grazing land, thereby destroying College and student’s farms.
The highly elated Provost appreciated members of the Governing council, Staff, Students and the host communities of the College for their co-operation since his assumption as provost two years ago and promised to live up to expectations of all.
He used the Occasion to appeal to staff and students of the institution who are currently on vacation due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) Pandemic wherever they may be to endure the hardship occasioned by the lockdown by observing all Federal Government and World Health Organization Protocols by using recommended sanitizers, wearing of face masks, maintaining of social distances and other personal hygiene and should stay indoor if nothing serious is bringing them out as prevention is better and cheaper than cure.
In their Separate speeches, the Deputy Provost of the college, Dr MMM Ekpa, JP and the Registrar, Pastor Dr Liverpool Ebeh Onyije described the provost, Dr Emmanuel Ikenyiri, as a God sent and silent achiever and thanked Almighty God for having such a man to head the institution at this period and promised that the college community will continue to work with him in harmony for the peace, unity, progress and rapid development of the School.
According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the college, Prince Charles Amadike-Otoboh, JP, the provost who was accompanied during the project inspection by the Deputy Provost, Dr MMM Ekpa, the Registrar, Dr L. E Onyije, the Bursar, Lady Emelia Inimgba, the Director of Works, Engr. Nathan Nwokocha, the head Procurement unit, Mrs Disph Pac Ordu and other senior staff of the college inspected the College, main gate under construction, students lavatory 2017 TETFUND zonal intervention, roads and students Hostels constructed by NDDC, all at campus 2 as well as college rehabilitated gymnastic building and completed 500- capacity building at campus 1 among other projects.
