Saturday’s State-wide Sanitation Exercise: RIWAMA Sole Administrator, Bro. Felix Obuah Elated Over Residents’ Compliance
The Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah has expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital and its environs, following the compliance of residents and business operators in today’s sanitation exercise, which held across the State.
Bro. Obuah who stated theseshortly after monitoring the exercise in some sections of Port Harcourt, the State capital, applauded the people for complying with the exercise after about 6 months lull in monthly environmental sanitation exercise following the outbreak of Covid-19 which put most social and economic activities to a halt, and urged them to keep up the tempo.
Bro. Obuah who was represented at the monitoring exercise by his Special Assistant, Prince Ike Anselm Chukwu dispelled the notion that RIWAMA had been complacent in organizing the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise for a long time, stressing rather, the agency had actually been carrying out its role on environmental sanitation even when no announcements are made calling out residents for monthly sanitation exercise because of Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Special Assistants and the rest of the team are always out there in mufti doing their job but today we have done it differently. We have been able to show ourselves, come out colourful for everybody to understand and queue into the monthly sanitation exercise to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean”, he said.
“I am highly elated by the compliance exhibited by residents and people doing business in Port Harcourt and its environs in the sanitation exercise today. I particularly express satisfaction with the improved performance of our Service Providers who have obeyed the ‘sit up or get fired’ order recently issued by the Agency”, Bro. Obuah enthused.
“The cleanliness of Port Harcourt and its environs is a testimony of the fact that the agency has not been resting on its oars throughout these months that monthly sanitation exercise couldn’t hold, and this has been made possible through the support and guidance of His Excellency, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Governor of Rivers State”, he said.
Some of the areas visited include GRA Phase One and Two, Orazi, Rumuola, Aba Road, Rumuomasi, Artillery, Rumuobiakani, Oginigba to Slaughter, Peter Odili Road, D/Line, Old GRA, Ogbum-nu-Abali, Ikwerre Road and Rumueme in Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.
The RIWAMA Sole Administrator while lauding the improved sanitation standard in Port Harcourt and its environs, attributed it to internal mechanisms recently adopted by the Agency.
As part of the internal mechanism adopted by the Agency, Bro. Obuah said he embarked on a daily early morning monitoring of parts of Port Harcourt, the State capital and its environs to ascertain the level of cleanliness as well as enhanced the Quick Intervention Unit of the Agency.
“This daily early morning monitoring exercise paid off as you can see, because we were able to put Service Providers on their toes. We were also able to appraise their daily performances in their respective zones and when we discovered lukewarm attitude in some of them, we asked them to sit up or get fired; and the result is what we are seeing today”, Bro. Obuah stated.
The Sole Administrator advised Rivers people to join hands with Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the State are kept clean and healthy at all times.
