RSG Reiterates Ban Of All Forms Of Fees, Charges In Schools

Parents and guardians can now heave a sigh of relief following Government’s pronouncements on payment of school fees and other charges.

According to the press statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, Principals and Heads of Schools have been reminded that the State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, has since banned the collection of charges and fees of any kind and for any purpose from students and pupils.

He said as schools reopen for the new academic year 2020/2021 no pupil or student should be made to pay any form of fees stressing that any Principal, Head Teacher or others caught violating the ban will be summarily dealt with in accordance with the extant laws and rules.

He enjoined pupils, parents and guardians to resist payment of any kind of charges and promptly report any incidents of demand to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, using this phone number: 07030967868.

It would be recalled that mixed reactions had trailed Government’s approval of resumption of schools. While some parents were happy to have their wards back to school others were complaining of lack of funds to pay for school fees and other things needed to successfully take their wards back to school especially as they are yet to recover from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
