NJC Clears Hon Justice Amadi As New Rivers Chief Judge
…Dismisses Petitions Against Justices Odili, Aprioku, Ollor
The National Judicial Council under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Dr. Justice I.T. Muhammad, has cleared the Honourable Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi as the new Chief Justice of Rivers State, Hon Justice Amadi takes over from Honourable Justice Adama Lamikanra who will be retiring soon.
Hon. Justice Lamikanra was preceded by the Hon. Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha, the first woman to ever serve in that office.
The National Judicial Council at its 94th meeting held March 17 – 18, 2021 considered the list of candidates presented by its interview committee and resolved to recommend all the successful candidates to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governors of Rivers, Nasarawa, Kogi, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Delta States.
A total of 26 successful candidates were approved for appointment as Justices of the Court of Appeal and Heads of courts in Nigeria, Rivers State inclusive, which has Hon Justice S.C. Amadi as Chief Judge.
The NJC also dismissed petitions written against Honourable Justices S.N. Odili, C.C. Okaa and P.C. Obiorah, all of Anambra State High Court.
Also, the petition written against Acting Chief Judge of Imo State; Hon. Justice Ijeoma O. Agugua was dismissed.
Among other petitions dismissed were petitions against Hon. Justice Godwin O. Ollor and S.H. Aprioku of the Rivers State High Court.
