The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC, says it has accepted the decision of the All Progressives Congress in the state, not to contest the forthcoming April 17 local government elections.
Chairman of the Commission, Retd. Justice George Omereji disclosed this in a one day stakeholders meeting with members of political parties in the state.
He said it is political parties that present candidates for elections, and since the APC has decided not to contest, the Commission will respect their decision.
Omereji said though the logo of the party would appear on the ballot, no candidate will be recognized.
Meanwhile Gov. Wike had in a statement said the APC, is boycotting the polls to avoid electoral embarrassment.
