The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of journalists (NUJ) has described the death of one of its colleagues, Chief Soye Wilson Jamabo as a big loss to the Union and the pen profession in general.
Chief Jamabo passed on last Thursday, 28th of March, 2019.
In a statement signed by the council’s Secretary, Ike Wigodo, the Union commiserated with the family of the veteran journalist and with the Okrika Council of Chiefs over the irreparable loss.
The NUJ noted the immense contributions of Chief Jamabo to journalism profession, describing him as a seasoned journalist, writer, editor and a great unionist whose contributions to journalism and the NUJ as a body can not be quantified.
“He was not only a role model to budding journalists while in active service, he impacted greatly to many who were ready to learn.
“There is no doubt that his service would be greatly missed by not just the Union, but the entire media industry in the State”, the statement said.
Jamabo, according to the statement, started his career as a reporter with the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publisher of The Tide Newspapers and rose to the position of Editor (Daily) of the newspaper.
He, thereafter, served as the Acting General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation before his retirement.
The Union, however, prays God to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
