There was pandemonium on Monday at Ikoku/Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt as a uniform man suspected to be a soldier attached to a construction company carrying out construction work at Ikoku shot a bus driver on his leg.
We learnt that a wheelbarrow pusher who is believed to be of the same tribe with the soldier hit the head lamp of a bus and was held by the driver of the bus when he (wheelbarrow pusher) reportedly did not apologize.
We gathered that the driver insisted that the wheelbarrow pusher must replace the head lamp of the vehicle he damaged which resulted to exchange of blows between the driver and the man.
Eyewitness told our correspondent that a uniform man suspected to be a soldier attached to a construction company carrying out construction work at Ikoku told the driver to let the wheelbarrow pusher go but the driver insisted that the wheelbarrow pusher should replace his damaged headlamp.
Our source disclosed that the soldier allegedly shot the bus driver on the leg as the argument continued which resulted to pandemonium as passersby and road users scampered to safety.
The incident also resulted to heavy traffic gridlock as vehicles had to take alternative routes .Our correspondent who visited the scene at Ikoku was told by business owners that the construction company rushed the driver to an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The spokesperson for the 6 Division, Nigeria Army headquarters, Port Harcourt, Lt. Colonel Charles Ekeocha, was yet to reply text messages our reporter sent to his mobile line on enquiry into the incident.
