Rivers CJ Lauds Ichegbo For Transparency
…As Isiokpo NBA Chairman Bows Out In Style
The Rivers State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi has commended the immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Isiokpo branch, Mr. Promise Ichegbo for proper financial record keeping as well as for being transparent during his administration as Chairman of Isiokpo branch.
The Chief Judge who was represented at the event by Hon. Justice Opufaa Ben Whyte of thye High Court of Isiokpo Division, said that Mr. Ichegbo should not only be given credit for giving account of his stewardship and financial statement of the association, but should be emulated.
“In his farewell speech, Mr2 years during his tenure, Ichegbo was able to give us the financial statement of this association for the past 2 years during his tenure. Indeed, Mr. Igbegbu and his team should be praised”, he said.
Hon. Justice Amadi state stated that despite the fact that each and every one of them may have interest in politics, they should however free themselves from political influence of those who wield power and political influence.
The Chief Judge told them to shun ego and try to work as a team as well as sort out their disagreements and differences, reminding them that they are now the trustee of the common wealth of members of the association.
He urged the new exco members to strive so that at the end of their two years tenure, the amount of money they will be handing over to their future successors will not be less than what the new exco members received from their predecessor.
Earlier in his valedictory address, Mr. Promise Ichegbo said that his administration faced some challenges.
“This administration no doubt faced and experienced some challenges; chief among the constraints encountered by this administration is the issue of funds needed to execute projects outlined for the branch, particularly the branch center completion project and investment in profitable ventures to shore up financial base and fortune of the branch as envisaged in my manifesto”, he said.
He explained that within 2 years in office, he and members of his exco achieved and did a lot for the branch.
The outgoing Chairman disclosed that during the just concluded Annual General Conference of the NBA 2022 held in Lagos State, the branch engaged and secured a firm promise from one of the illustrious sons of Isiokpo, Joseph Nwobike SAN, to purchase and handover in December, two plots of land to the branch for her development.
“We must graciously thank Joseph Nwobike for that kind gesture and urge the new administration of the NBA, Isiokpo branch to work towards the actualization of the promise of property”.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the branch, Dr. Cahsmia Ofurum said the new administration would be based on the rule of law.
He promised that members of the new exco would not disappoint members of the branch, even as he reiterated that the new exco members would work assiduously to consolidate on the gains and achievements recorded by their predecessor.
