Felix Obuah, Good Party Man, Grassroots Mobilizer

There is no doubt that Bro Felix Obuah is popular in Rivers politics. His popularity cut across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.

The former Rivers PDP chairman had built his popularity around his philanthropy and his easy going brand of politics which endears him to Rivers people.

Obuah has used his philanthropy to touch lives positively in the state. A great number of Rivers people, particularly those from Ogba Egbema Local Government Area have benefitted from his generosity. Obuah had used his hard earned money to train and empower them, giving them hope to live and survive the harsh economic realities facing the country.

Sometime ago, it was reported that he disbursed money to Omoku market women to enable them expand their business. It was also reported that he had trained a good number of Omoku youths in skills acquisition after wich he helped them financially to start their various trades.

Obuah’s philanthropy became more pronounced during the COVID-19 period when the former PDP Chairman, moved by sympathy on account of the sufferings of the people, flooded Omoku communities with relief materials for distribution to the less privileged who were terribly affected by the great impacts of the COVID.

It was therefore, not surprising that as the whistle for the 2023 Governorship election was blown, many support groups arose and persuaded him to contest.

Not only did they plot to draft him into the race, they let Bro Obuah understood that they would go round the 23 Local Government Areas in the state to canvass support for him.

The two time PDP chairman after much pressures, had harkened to their calls and agreed to become an aspirant for the election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he loves so much and under which he had risen to the top echelon of politics, not only in the state, but Nigeria generally.

When Obuah joined the race, considering his popularity with the delegates, many Rivers people had tipped him to win the PDP Governorship primaries, but that did not happen.

Hon. Obuah did not win, but as a good party man who knew that one person wins an election at a particular time, immediately congratulated Sir Sim Fubara who emerged as the PDP Governorship flag bearer.

Not only did Obuah congratulate Sir Sim, he had gone ahead to work for his victory in the 2023 governorship election.

What Hon. Felix Obuah had done so far in a bid to make sure that the PDP mandate is actualized, include, sensitization of the electorates at the grassroots, impressing it upon them to have their PVC’s ready in preparation to vote for the candidates of the PDP in the 2023 general elections, drafting of intelligent and vibrant individuals in the Governorship campaign council of the PDP.

As Director-General of PDP campaign council, Obuah knew he had been entrusted with a big mandate to make sure that PDP wins Rivers State resoundingly. And so, in order to achieve this, he had carefully selected those who had what it takes to put all PDP candidates in power in 2023 into the PDP campaign council.

And his pragmatic assemblage has paid off as these campaign council members had penetrated deep into the rural areas, raising support for the PDP candidates which had translated into mammoth crowds converging at PDP’s campaign venues each time there was campaigns.

Every PDP campaign grounds had always been filled with people. Consider what happened at Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium on Saturday, November 19, during the party’s campaign and unveiling of the PDP governorship candidate, Sir Siminalayi Fubara. Not only was the crowd massive, but many prominent politicians and personalities graced the event. These are the things that gladdens Obuah’s heart as his pre occupation for now is how to achieve victory for the PDP in next year’s elections.

The man who as PDP chairman returned Wike as governor twice, is very confident that he will achieve success for the PDP in all the elections in 2023.

His confidence to achieve victory for PDP was gleaned from a press statement that came from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, where the PDP campaign Director-General was quoted as saying that he would repeat landslide victory for Rivers PDP in 2023 elections.

Hear Obuah: “I’ll repeat landslide victory for Rivers PDP as Campaign Director-General”.

Obuah had further said in the statement that though the party was not going to leave anything to chances, the quality leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike exemplified by the infrastructural revolution across the state had already provided the elixir to the quest for the people’s mandate in favour of the tested Rivers State PDP in 2023 general elections.

The former PDP boss stressed that elections were not only the time to ask for votes but also the period to present one’s score cards to the people for assessment.

“If this is the case, the landmarks of the PDP-led government in the state speak for the party. If the opposition has seen and testified to the quality leadership provided by His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike over the years and decided to join him in this race, then the result is clear”, Bro Obuah said, and assured that victory is guaranteed for the party next year.

These were indeed statements of a good and loyal party man, who instead of nursing and complaining about his loss at primaries as many of his supporters expected, decided to work for the victory of the party, being fully aware that if the party wins, he would be one of its beneficiaries.
