Gov Wike Has Expanded Development Frontiers Beyond State – Chief Judge

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, has said that the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, has expanded frontiers of development beyond state boundary and built courts and residential quarters for judges of Federal High Court and Court of Appeal as well as National Industrial Court.

The Chief Judge spoke in a goodwill message at commissioning of the National Industrial Court Judges’ Quarters at Old GRA in the state capital commissioned by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Tanko Muhammad.

The chief judge said the governor had done this because he understood that man’s yearning for justice cuts across geographical, state and constitutional boundaries.

The chief judge said: “In his large-heartedness and policy of promotion of access to justice in Rivers State and welfare of judges in Nigeria, His Excellency expanded the frontiers of development beyond the coverage of state responsibility and boundary to build courts and residential quarters for the Federal High Court Judges in Port-Harcourt and judges of Court of Appeal, Port-Harcourt Division”.

He further said: “The cycle of development by His Excellency today is anchored on the judges of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Rivers State as the world-class residential quarters built for them by the Rivers State government is to be commissioned”.

He declared that the state judiciary would ensure the dispensation of justice without hindrance under his time as chief judge of the state.

He also said that there would be collaboration within constitutional limits between the judiciary and other arms of government saying that he would raise the judiciary banner higher.

Hon Justice Chibuzor Amadi said that his predecessor took the judiciary to great heights because of support and release of funds by the state government and promised on his honour that with collaboration he would take the judiciary to greater heights.

The residential quarters for judges of the National Industrial Court were commissioned by the Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Tanko Muhammad who was represented by a judge in the Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili.

In remarks the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria Honourable Justice Benedict Kanyip said that the National Industrial Court was immensely grateful and thanked governor of the state for keeping his promise over building residential quarters for judges of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

The governor who spoke said that the residential quarters were built so that judges would not live in rented homes.

He said he supports the autonomy of the judiciary and the legislature saying that the state was already implementing the autonomy of the two arms of government.
