Press Release: Rt. Hon. Dekor Reacts To Alleged Derogatory Statement On Ogoni

The member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor has again enjoined the reading public to ignore the repeated malicious publication against him by hired political bigots, Kennedy Friday, Solomon Lenu and their cohorts who take advantage of the social media to run down perceived opponents of their paymasters.

According to Rt. Hon. Dekor, he too, was shocked as any other reader at the report credited to him by Kennedy Friday, Solomon Lenu and their cohorts of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, that Ogonis are not yet ripe for the governorship of Rivers State.

While political opposition is a democratic tenet, Rt. Hon. Dekor noted, it is morally wrong to hide under it to peddle falsehood and to get at perceived political enemies.

The federal lawmaker said at no time did he make such statement, insisting that politics is a party issue and not tribal but to the like of Kennedy Friday, Solomon Lenu, and their cohorts, anybody that is not in their own party becomes the enemy of his people.

Rt. Hon. Dekor explained it was against the backdrop of his support for the Rivers State Governor-elect, Sir Siminalayi Fubara that his detractors keep plotting to drag his hard earned reputation to the mud and lower it in the estimation of the right thinking members of the public and the Ogoni people.

But thank God they have woefully failed in this unholy mission, Rt. Hon Dekor declared.

“I am a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state and occupy my present seat in the Federal House of Representatives, representing the good people of Khana/Gokana on the ticket of my party, the PDP. It is therefore illogical and naïve of anybody to expect me not to campaign and canvass for votes of my constituents for my party that has done so much for my constituency, my Ogoni people and the State generally.

“Why must all of us be expected to belong to the same party, the SDP. Ironically, the same party is soliciting for support and votes from other ethnic nationalities which is self-contradictory.

“I do not regret one bit supporting the Rivers State Governor-elect and the PDP. This does not in any way amount to saying that an Ogoniman who desires to occupy the office the Governor of the state should not aspire to it or that Ogoni is unripe to produce the governor of Rivers State.

“But if anybody feels I should have abandoned my party and my party flag bearer, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for any other candidate, I could not have done that and if that is the reason for fabricating such falsehood against my person, it is only a pity,” Rt. Hon. Dekor declared.

Rt. Hon. Dekor challenged anybody with credible evidence that he said what he is being alleged, to come up with such and make it public.

The Ogoni-born politician and philanthropist however, promised that the sponsored blackmail against his person will never distract him nor dissuade  him from the chosen path of pursuing the collective progress and development of Ogoni people irrespective of party or creed, describing the fruitless attempt to blackmail him by these ‘political jobbers’ as a missed goal.

Rt. Hon. Dekor urged the members of the public particularly the Ogoni people to discountenance the malicious publication which according to him is only good for the trash tray of history.
